Long Live Allana

Life and death, Construction and Demolition, Creation and Destruction has been associated with this world right from the beginning and perhaps this is the greatest and unavoidable truth of life. This truth sometimes makes you weep with grief or make you laugh with joy and gaiety. Sometime you feel enthralled with joy and happiness whereas sometime you are plunged in to a sea of despair and unhappiness.

While I am writing this, Country is celebrating 52nd Republic Day. There is joy and gaiety all around. But my mind goes into flashback. Exactly one year ago on this day calamity struck in form of earthquake in Kutch, Saurashtra & Gujarat. The devastation was so grave that hundreds of people died, thousands of people rendered homeless, whereas loss in form of cash was kind of so huge that till today no one could come around the correct figure.

This unfortunate calamity in form of earthquake has proved highly disastrous and perhaps it may take years for the people Kutch, Saurashtra and Gujarat to come out of its trauma. This natural calamity may require many years to make people of Gujarat stablilise economically. But it is said calamity never comes alone it comes in multiples.

As the news of devastation was pouring in one more blow was in waiting. In the evening another blow in form of lightning struck on the Memon Community, more precisely on its educational revolution. One of foremost and leading crusader of its educational revolution, Janab Mohammad Hussain Allana breathed his last. Sun on that day did set on the horizon of the country but, along with it, it took away the most illustratious son of the memon community. One of the greatest philanthropist, leading social worker and above all a man of golden heart, who always dreamt of community's welfare and its prosperity, who always wanted to see the community in forefront and limelight. He was instrumental in shaping educational future of the memon community more particularly professional education with the help of his various trusts, passed away quietly that evening. News of his sudden demise was bolt from the blue for the community, nothing could have been done except to accept God's wishes.

What a fateful day! On one hand people of Gujarat were tolling in the mid-stream and on the other hand memon community plunged in to sea of deep sorrow. The torchbearer of the rising generation, crusader of educational revolution as well as Messiah of orphans, downtrodden, destitute, widows who use to wipe off their tears, JanabMohammad Hussain Allana was no more. A man who always dreamt of seeing smiles on the faces of orphans, downtrodden, destitute, widows breathed his last. A man who relentlessly dedicated his life for the cause of the community left heavenly abode. Clouds of distress overshadowed the community.

It is said that time heals the wounds no matter how painful they are but, can ever the community forget Janab Mohammad Hussain Allana? Perhaps never. Numerous educational Institutions were establishes either by his donations or by the trust he founded. Many Schools, Colleges, Diagnostic Centres, Mosques were built and many old Mosques were repaired either by his trust or with the help of those trusts with whom he was associated. He knew that education was the most important thing for the upliftment of the community, moreover education should not remain confined to school and college level only, it has to go much beyond that. Keeping this thing in mind he established Pharmacy College, Unani Medical College, College of Architecture, College of Information Technology and Business Administration Colleges. The last one year has been really difficult for us working without him. At every moment, every project, in every meeting and in every function we felt that this great son of the community is sitting somewhere near, directing, inspiring and patting our backs with his loving arms. Even today we feel him around us beaming innocent broad smile and casting its magic spell on us.

As I said earlier life and death is in the hands of Allah the Almighty and so with heavy heart we obey and abide by the wishes of Allah. On this first Death Anniversary of our beloved companion we pay our tearful homage to the departed soul and pray to Allah that our friend be given nicest place in Jannatul Firdous. Memon Community will never forget this uncrowned king.

We miss you very much Allana Saheb! Long Live Allana.
Adam Noor.
