Speech by Mr. Adam Noor (Bombay)

Mr. Adam Noor
Member of Supreme Council,
Hon. Sec. Memon Educational & Welfare Society

Bismillah hir rahman nir rahim

Assalam-o-Alaikum to all the members of the Supreme Council that is Mr. Haji Abdul Razzak Yakub (ARY) of Dubai, Mr. Aboo Bakar Cassim of Dubai, Mr. Latif Ebrahiim Jamal of Karachi, Mr. Abdul Razzak Sorathia (Tastee) of Karachi, and all our dear delegates that have come from all the corners of the world like India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, UK, USA, South Africa, Kenya, Burma, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia and Dubai, who include our elders, friends, and present ladies.

By being present, you have added charm and glory to this historic event. I appreciate your enthusiasm and goodwill towards our faith in community, and in reckoning that, I feel extremely proud and happy. I welcome and thank you all once again for that.

I would like to refresh memories here, that 70 years ago, in the year 1931 at Rajkot in India, our elders had called for the first ever Memon Convention, wherein they had brought Memons from all over India on a single platform to discuss the questions of the community in financial, industrial, business and religious context. There they had come to the conclusion that for all the woes that they had, there was only one solution. 'EDUCATION'. To do something for our wonderful and talented people, they came up with the solution that there should be an organization, one that would solve this problem.

With the hard work, will & prayers of our elders, an organization was finally formed in the year 1933. One, which 'Masha Allah', still survives. One that is named 'Memon Education & Welfare Society'. By the grace of Allah, this society is providing scholarships for education till date.

In India, every year, it provides ten thousand students, the help of rupees one crore twenty lakhs. In Pakistan it provides every year eight thousand students, the help of eighty lakhs. In this way, the society in a year, provides eighteen thousand Memon students, the help of two crores worth of education. In India alone, every year there are about a dozen doctors. Engineers, arts, science, and commerce graduates and technicians take the total to about a hundred annually. At present, two to three thousand students acquire higher studies and climb the ladder of success in all fields of life, and in turn give their services to the community and the country at large. Due to the help of this society, there are fifty thousand student that get educated with the cost of twelve to fifteen crore rupees. I thank Allah a million times that the efforts of our elders have been greeted with success. May Allah grant our elders a bountiful place in heaven for their deeds, Amen.

As for now, instead of a single country, the Memons from all over the world has congregated here in Dubai for the convention. The reason? To solve the problems faced by the community internationally. Today the world is, but a small place. It has been transformed into a small village. New and still newer discoveries have lead the world to prosper, and still new discoveries continue. It is the years after the millennium. For that, today once again, we all need to come together and do what had been done 70 years ago, and set up an International Memon Society and be a boon to the students of today. So that they remember us tomorrow for what we have done today, and that in my view is not all that difficult. 'Masha-Allah' in today's congregation, we have educated, intelligent, God-fearing, doctors, barristers, businessmen, industrialists, social workers, principals, economists, politicians. So, then is this target difficult? Never….Lets get up and do the needful.

If we today being all present and active, do not lay the foundation of the society, then let alone our future generation, but, Allah himself will not forgive us. And we will all be guilty to the Almighty then.

My Brothers, we five people of the Supreme Council, have met and called for this convention, without any benefits to ourselves, either financially or in any other way, but, have done this with the sole intention of the goodwill and upliftment of the community at large. And towards Allah we only ask for the success of our dreams for the community. Once again in the presence of you all, I ask and plead towards the Almighty that we all be successful in the making of an International Society for the benefit of our community, and I ask you all also to join me in this prayer to Allah.

Aameen.
