This memorable and
successful event came to conclusion on Sunday with a declaration that
a global organization of Memons should be established. This organization
will strive to achieve its main objectives of Islamic principles. This
historical decision was made in a resolution, which was unanimously passed
by over 250 delegates who had gathered in Dubai from different countries
of the world that included Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka, United Kingdom,
South Africa, United States of America, Canada, Malawi, Kenya, Botswana
and Russia etc. According to the decision the principal office will be
located in Dubai and its secretariat in London.

The
delegates approved the formation of a steering committee with Haji
Abdul Razzak Yaqoob of Dubai as its first chairman. The committee
will have 4-deputy chairman from South Africa, India, Pakistan and
United Kingdom. It will have an Honorary General Secretary and 2
Joint Secretaries one each located in Dubai and London. The steering
committee is required under the terms of reference to suggest an
appropriate name of the proposed organization, to prepare a constitution,
standing orders and modus operandi for presentation these at the
next convention to be held as soon as possible within a year but
not later than coming month of Ramadan. The Committee has members
from Pakistan, India, South Africa, United Kingdom, United States,
Canada, Sri Lanka, UAE, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Portugal, Japan and Russia.
More 5 members can be co-opted from the community if necessary.
Finance required for the preparatory work will be raised from the
countries in ratio to be determined by the steering committee, which
will also carry out all other incidental matters relating to the
preparatory work.

| Technical
papers were read on Islamic Finance and Banking, importance of professional
education and other social and welfare issues. Mr. Yusuf Abdullah
Haroon was the chief guest and inaugurated the Convention on Saturday
28th April 2001. Both lunch at Le Meridien and dinner at Crowne Plaza
on Saturday 28th were hosted by Haji Abdul Razzak of ARY while lunch
on Sunday 29th was hosted by Habib Bank AG Zurich and dinner at Marriott
by Abu Baker Cassim of National Traders. |

On Friday 27th on
the eve of the Convention Organizing Committee of the Memon Community
in the UAE had arranged a dinner for families in the UAE to meet the delegates
and their Partners. A large number of about 900 persons attended the dinner
and wished the Convention a success. Mr. Haji Abdul Majid Pardesi, Haji
Amin Pardesi and Haji Rafiq Pardesi hosted that dinner. Mr. Haji Samad
Pardesi addressed the gathering and made certain relevant suggestions
for consideration at the Convention. Those suggestions aimed for uplift
of the Memons all over the globe.
