The UK is home to a thriving Memon community, primarily composed of twice-migrants who arrived from East Africa in the 1960s and 70s, as well as direct migrants from Pakistan and India.
The major wave arrived following the African independence movements. Known as 'Leicester Memons' or 'London Memons', they arrived often with very little but quickly re-established themselves through hard work in textiles, retail, and professional services.
The UK community is highly organized. They have successfully blended British citizenship with Memon values. The younger generation is highly educated, entering fields like law, medicine, and finance, while maintaining strong ties to the Jamat.
The Memon Association UK and various regional Jamats are very active. They organize massive sports tournaments, cultural evenings, and youth networking events. The 'Memon Centre' in London serves as a focal point for community activities.
