A comforting one-pot rice and lentil dish with aromatic spices, a staple in Memon households.

Instructions

    Wash rice and dal separately.

    Heat ghee in a pot, add cumin seeds and bay leaves.

    Add onions and cook until golden.

    Add ginger-garlic paste and green chillies.

    Add rice and dal, stir well.

    Add turmeric and salt.

    Pour water and bring to boil.

    Reduce heat and simmer covered for 20 minutes until cooked.

    Fluff with fork and serve hot.

  • Rice – 1 cup
  • Moong dal – 1/2 cup
  • Ghee – 3 tbsp
  • Onions – 2 medium
  • Ginger-garlic paste – 1 tbsp
  • Green chillies – 2
  • Turmeric – 1/2 tsp
  • Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
  • Bay leaves – 2
  • Salt – to taste
  • Water – 4 cups
